Health from the Farm: How to be an elite athlete
Or at least eat like one... Dear friends and customers of North Mountain Pastures,
We've got a special treat for you today. Many of the eaters of our pasture-raised meats are athletes of one type or another. Sometimes this means active moms who chase after their toddlers (incredibly physically demanding!), some practice yoga or crossfit or a sport or two, and some are actually competitive athletes. Generally you folks care about your health and take care of your bodies, and

Thoughts from the Farm: Marketing Claims
Hello friends and local food eaters, We hope you are enjoying good health on these first days of spring! I noticed an interesting claim on my kids' cereal box. Our kids eat cereal as a special treat, like dessert. Or in the event of an early departure, it is a quick breakfast with extra protein like collagen or grassfed whey in the milk. Food from the Farm: Good Steak
Good morning friends and local food eaters, Who doesn't love a good steak? We wanted to share some of our experiences with cooking steak. Our absolute favorite way to prepare steak is over a wood fire. We love having fires

There was quite a bit of setup to do to prepare for them. The shipping container that we use as a brooder had to be thoroughly cleaned out and set up again to provide shelter and heat to baby chicks. We're trying out something new this year in the brooder: an automated feed and wa

Thoughts from the Farm: the Soil Movement
Dear friends and local food eaters, I am writing to you today about what's being called "the Soil Movement". I have recently been reading the book Kiss the Ground by Josh Tickell, which I found at my local library (the Newport public library is amazing for a small rural town!). I've been loving this book. I've stuck in a hundred sticky notes, all of which are things that were new to me, that I wanted to share with you. Obviously, I can't share all of them, but I really do wan
